Forms of hosting solutions

A hosting solution involves keeping and/or sharing specific content on a hosting server administered by a website hosting supplier. There are various kinds of hosting services used for various ends, so let's take a glimpse at these. In this way, you can elect what you need, on the basis of whether you'd like to create a site, email box accounts, or to share files with friends and acquaintances.

- File hosting: a solution distributed by some file storage providers, which enables you to share immense files. These could be disk images, motion pictures, audio files, archives, and so on. This service is also known as file storage, and its single designation is to share files, since it does not support site uploading. Once the files are uploaded, you will either receive an accidentally created download link for each of them, or you will be able to see an index of all the files in a directory, but you will be unable to load .html or .php website files in your web browser. Free-of-charge file storage services are frequently supported by exhibiting ads beside the download links, while a timer compels you to await a certain interval of time to observe them. A single file can be downloaded with limited speed. If you run a paid file storage plan, there are no limitations as to how many files you can upload/download straight away, and also there is no limitation when it comes to the download speed or the file size.

At present, with the help of the cPanel hosting suppliers, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more faddish "cloud hosting". This is a totally distorted interpretation of the actual definition of "cloud hosting". An actual cloud website hosting system would split the tasks at hand between individual packs of servers in a cluster, which are committed to serving various hosting services (mail, disk space, statistics, DNS, databases, web hosting CP, etc.) So, the file hosting service is merely a brand of a disk storage hosting solution, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even near.

- Image hosting: similar to file hosting; given companies offer a hosting service for images only. This hosting kind is suitable if you desire to share a large number of pics with comrades or colleagues since the service is usually free. You will receive a random link for each and every pic or album and you can then share this link. As with the file hosting solution, .html and .php files are not compatible, so the solution cannot be used for websites.

- Email hosting: a service committed to handling your email addresses. Some suppliers provide hosting solutions for websites, but do not supply an email solution. If you desire to create a mail address with your domain name but do not wish to keep a website, then the email hosting solution is what you require. You can set up email accounts and administer them, but there will be no hosting solution for the domains. The e-mail hosting solution involves incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP email servers.

- Video hosting: this service allows you to upload and share videos. You can either share a link to a given video file, or you can embed the video file in your web site that is hosted elsewhere. The advantage of using this method instead of uploading the video file in a hosting account is that the video clip generates a given amount of CPU load, so with a few videos and a few hundred web page viewers, you may have a problem with your hosting resources. Embedding the video will enable you to manage as many videos as you would like without worrying about system supplies.

- Website hosting: this is the solution that you need if you desire to keep a web site. To a certain extent, it includes all of the aforementioned hosting brands since, along with your websites, you can also host images and files, you can create databases and email address accounts, upload video clips, etc. At, for example, you can explore web hosting and dedicated web server hosting plans that permit you to have all of the aforementioned services in one location. There may be limits depending on the sort of hosting solution that you've settled on - a free hosting package, a paid shared hosting account, a VPS or a dedicated server. Depending on that, your site hosting package may be better or worse in comparison with the usual email/file/video/image hosting plans that are conceived for particular content only.
